POTTERY WORKSHOPS
The Landscape of Creativity: Painting, Drawing & Ceramics
Art In Chester is a multi-disciplinary creative practice led by Chloe Augusta Operating across two unique locations in Cheshire, the studio offers a bridge between the fine arts and the tactile world of artisan pottery.
The Pottery Workshop (Great Barrow)
a dedicated ceramic space in Great Barrow, Chester, is home to popular pottery throwing workshops. This rustic hub is designed for hands-on learning, small group classes, and 1-on-1 wheel-throwing tuition.
The Journey: From Clay to Kiln
Every piece created at the Chester pottery studio follows a traditional, rhythmic process. When you join a workshop, you aren't just making a pot; you are engaging in an ancient craft:
Wedging & Centering
The physical start of the journey. We prepare the clay and find "true center" on the potter's wheel—a meditative process that is the foundation of all wheel-thrown ceramics.
The Throw
Under Chloe’s expert guidance, you will learn to pull the walls of your vessel, turning a ball of earth into a functional form like a bowl, mug, or vase..
The First Fire (Bisque)
Your work is loaded into the kiln for its first firing at approximately 1000°C, transforming the fragile clay into durable ceramic.
Glazing & Final Fire
the piece is dip-glazed and fired again to a higher temperature. This vitrifies the clay, making your handcrafted pottery food-safe and waterproof
